Pet Pals

Pet Pals is a mobile app designed to connect pet owners and pets, with the charm of a dating platform. It offers pet owners an outlet to communicate and learn how to give their pet the best care.

Goals

  • Foster a sense of community to facilitate pet socialization
  • Allow users to connect with other local pet lovers by allowing location services
  • Encourage long-term engagement by offering personalized content tailored to each user’s preferences.
  • Ensure that the platform is accessible to and inclusive of a diverse audience.
  • Empower pet owners with valuable information about how to best care for their pet

User Research

Methods

  • Conducted qualitative research using in-depth zoom  interviews with pet owners men and women, all from varying backgrounds in different stages of their life.
  • Sampled 9 participants (aged 15 to 30)
    • Students and everyday workers with different kinds of pets

Sample Questions

  • Have you ever used a pet application before? What was your experience like?
  • What features do you imagine an application for pet would consist of?
  • What would make you stop using this product?

Additionally, we conducted quantitative research using a survey. The google form was sent to the 9 previous participants.

Recommendations/ Solutions

Pet + Pet Owner Ratings: A section in the profile where other users can rate each other according to their experience and interaction. This can help the app to be more safe.

Mandatory questions about the pet: An activity bar for qualities like:

  • Temperament
  • Size
  • Vaccination status
  • Behavior (How aggressive or friendly)
  • Favorite Activity
  • Neutered

FAQ Section: A section with Frequently Asked Questions would help new pet owners learn about their pet.

Filter location and animals: These preferences would help pet owners find pets close by and also be able to select the species of animal.
